Family Sessions
Below is an example of what the family schedule is composed of during a typical Registration Day. The family schedule is developed on the basis of whether their student will be a resident or commuter.
Morning Sessions
CheckIn
Members of the University of Indianapolis Registration Team will hand out packets for students and family members/guests. Students and family members will have time to review their schedule, ask questions, and get energized for the day with a bite to eat at the complimentary continental breakfast.
Welcome Session
Members of the University of Indianapolis Registration Team will welcome new students and family members and review important information for the day. At the conclusion of this session, students and family members will split into groups.
Introduction
The Registration Day schedule and family groups (A, B, C) will be explained. Any changes or updates to the schedule will be given at this time. In addition, parents will have the opportunity to meet other parents of new students. At the end of this session, each group will be led by an Admissions Counselor or University staff member to their first session.
Sessions I, II, III
Family members will be assigned to one group (A, B, or C) to attend Residence
Life or Commuter Life, Transitions & Orientation, and Financing College.
There will be time for both presentations and questions from parents.
Residence Life
Kory Vitangeli, Dean of Students, Residence Life and Housing, will explain the current housing status, amenities, programming, and staff structure in each hall. In addition, she will be available to answer any questions.Commuter Life
Dave Parsons, OneCard Manager, will discuss what it is like to be a commuter at UIndy. He will discuss the services available to commuter students, where students can study, and how they can get involved. In addition, he will be available to answer any questions.Transitions & Orientation
Dan Stoker, Executive Director for Student Services, will discuss student and parent transitions to college, Welcome Week, and the New Student Experience Course. In addition, he will be available to answer any questions.Financing College
Linda Handy, Director of Financial Aid, and Heidi Carl, Associate Director of Financial Aid, will explain how to finance college and the financial aid process. In addition, they will be available to answer any questions.
Lunch
Family members will have the opportunity to meet up with their students for lunch.
Afternoon Sessions
Information Fair
Representatives from the Student Affairs Division and beyond will be available to share the services that are available to students. Offices and organizations at this fair will include: Academic Success Center, Career Services, CoCurricular Programs, Ecumenical & Interfaith Programs, Follett's Bookstore, Health & Counseling Center, Client Services, International Division, NCAA Clearinghouse, and University Police.
Parents of Student Athletes Meeting
Parents of student athletes will have the opportunity to meet Sue Willey, Director of Athletics. She will discuss the expectations of student athletes at the University of Indianapolis.
Sprint Sessions IV & V
Family members will have the option of attending informational sessions presented by various departments on campus. Such topics will include: Student Employment, Ecumenical & Interfaith Programs, Family Association, Faculty Expectations, Academic Support, Safety & Security, and the Health & Counseling Center. Each session is 30 minutes long.
Residence Hall Tours
Family members will meet up with their students and have the opportunity to tour the residence hall that the student has been assigned to, see a residence hall room, and meet the residence hall staff. In addition, the staff will be available to answer questions.
Commuter Meeting
Family members will meet up with their students and have the opportunity to meet other commuter students and their parents. Stefan Martin, Graduate Assistant for First Year Programs will be available to answer questions about commuter life on campus.
SendOff Reception
Family members and students can wrap up their day with the Admissions Staff at the Hospitality Center. They will be available to take any paperwork and answer final questions before families head home.
